Yesterday was a short and quiet day. Lucia came by to help, which was really nice since Janice injured her leg and needed to stay off it. I hope you feel better soon, Janice! Thank you for all your help.
The string holding the flags outside had broken under the weight of the rain-soaked flags, so I spent some time yesterday in the rain restringing them. Luckily I was under the protection of big, leafy trees, so I didn’t get too wet. One man stopped and asked if I needed help. He had a bright smile and such lovely eyes. He looked familiar. He may have made flags last year, and that’s why he looked familiar. I didn’t need help at that time, so he waved happily and went on his way. Later another man called out “I Love Canada” as he walked by, and some women stopped to take pictures of the flags. The flags represent such a positive expression of people who want to do good in the world. It’s nice when people stop and take it in.
Inside, Lucia and I chatted with the few people who came by our table. A few flags were made, and we met a lovely couple from the States – Wisconsin, I think. Anyway, he was 91 and she seemed to be about 5 years younger. They were so inspiring. He teaches seniors how to use computers, and he told a story of a lady he taught who was 101 when she started using them and she had a rich online life and loved to play computer games. She played 6 or 7 different games. She lived independently until her passing at just a few month shy of her 107th birthday. This couple, the man’s name was Bob, were so delightful and they had a great sense of humour. Lucia and I both said we hope to be like them NOW, let alone when we’re their ages.
I’m about to head back over the the church for the 4th and final day of our participation in Restore and Reconnect. We’ll be there from around 12 noon until 5:00/6:00. Later that night, the church will be having Gregorian chanting from 9:30 until 10:00pm, I think. So if you miss us and still want to see the boards and have a nice musical experience, please visit Christ Church Cathedral this evening.
I hope to see you today! Please come in, say hello, make a flag, tell a story and be a part of spreading messages of kindness.
