Kindness. Contemplation. Creation. Connection.
June 25, the vibe from the city felt like it was moving on; and so the Kindness Flag Project felt like it needed to move on too. It was a spontaneous expression of kindness and healing following the anger and injury of the riots.
The healing had started, and now the messages of kindness, hope and understanding that adorned the nearly 2000 flags made over 5 days could be teased off in the wind and carried outward on a continued restorative journey. Let’s hope that they will be reminders of the importance of practicing kindness and compassion in our daily lives, especially when it feels very difficult to do so. When the flags are gone, what will remain will be the memory of the positive experience and the power of sharing this experience with a wide community. Making the flags had us consider things deeply, but it was the connections we made that are the most important and lasting.
To everyone who participated and helped: Thank you for being teachers of the goodness of humanity. Please keep the momentum going.
